The Place (London) — Tides of the Moon: Performance + Choreography Process Lab

London
20 attending

Event Description

An evening of dance, process, and cosmological connection: Intercultural Roots host visiting artists from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM) to present Tides of the Moon—a 20-minute dance performance work exploring the fluid relationships between water and moon, body and tide, inspired by the Pacific Moon Goddess Hina—alongside graduate solo works and a participatory choreography lab revealing how the piece is made.

How to take part:

  • Ticket holders: watch the performances + join the open choreography/process workshop. The movement workshop guides participants through the creative process explored to generate the choreography for the 20 minute dance performance of Tides of the Moon created in Honolulu Hawai'i by dance artists Sami L.A. Akuna and Kara Jhalak Miller. Participants may dance or watch the workshop.

  • Co-organiser token holders: propose a 2–3 minute “performance-in-progress” (dance / spoken word / sound / micro-performance) responding to sun, moon, nature, tides, and seasonal turning—plus help shape the running order and feedback moments.

Featuring (UHM): Dance Faculty/Instructors: Sami L.A. Akuna and Kara Jhalak Miller, plus UHM Graduate Student Performers-Scholars: Santiago Rivera-Rodas, Bayardo Rodriguez, Zhenhao Wen, Kun Zhou

Organiser Intercultural Roots: Trustees: Maryam Safe and Lois Liao, plus Founder & CEO: Alex Boyd
